“La prioridad es garantizar que más personas, especialmente los trabajadores, sus comunidades y aquellos que históricamente han quedado rezagados por el comercio, puedan beneficiarse del acuerdo”, dijo Katherine Tai, representante comercial de la Casa Blanca.
Tai trató asuntos comerciales regionales con secretaria de Economía de México, Raquel Buenrostro, y la ministra de Comercio Internacional, Promoción de Exportaciones, Pequeñas Empresas y Desarrollo Económico de Canadá, Mary Ng, en el contexto de la cuarta reunión de la Comisión de Libre Comercio del T-MEC, que se realizó en Phoenix, Arizona.
Puesto en vigor el 1 de julio de 2020, el T-MEC ordena evaluaciones integrales cada seis años, por lo que la primera de ellas será en 2026.
Ya los tres gobiernos han tenido encuentros con sus respectivas partes interesadas en esta negociación, según agregó Tai.
Un comunicado de la USTR indicó que a lo largo de la reunión, Tai y Buenrostro enfatizaron la estrecha relación económica entre Estados Unidos y México y la importancia de la cooperación bajo el T-MEC.
Ambas funcionarias discutieron prioridades compartidas en temas laborales, incluido el Mecanismo de Respuesta Rápida del T-MEC y la implementación del compromiso del T-MEC relacionado con la prohibición de las importaciones producidas con trabajo forzoso.
También reconocieron la importancia de la implementación de la Decisión Número 5 de la Comisión de Comercio Internacional del T-MEC para mejorar la coordinación y consulta para apoyar el mantenimiento de los flujos comerciales de América del Norte en situaciones de emergencia.
