China will ban exports to the United States of \u201cdual-use products\u201d related to gallium, germanium, antimony and super-hard materials to the United States with immediate effect, its Ministry of Commerce announced this Tuesday, a day after the latest offensive of Washington against the Chinese chip sector.<\/p>\n
The ministry’s directive, which refers to safeguarding national security and interests, also calls for stricter review of the end use of dual-use graphite products shipped to the United States.<\/p>\n
However, they apply specifically to the United States, as part of the latest escalation in trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies on the eve of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.<\/p>\n
China’s announcement comes after the United States on Monday launched its third offensive in three years against the Chinese semiconductor industry, halting exports to 140 companies, including chip equipment maker Naura Technology Group.<\/p>\n
