Since April 27th, the Texas Department of Public Safety has been conducting inspections on cargo trucks arriving from Mexico, causing chaos at border crossings.
Following Texas’ renewed comprehensive inspections of cargo trucks from Mexico, Mexico’s National Customs Agency (ANAM) has announced an agreement with its counterpart, the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), to extend customs operating hours at alternative border crossings between Chihuahua and Texas.
This measure aims to expedite the transit of cargo trucks in response to recent comprehensive inspections by the Texas government and its Department of Transportation at the Ysleta-Zaragoza and BOTA-Córdova bridges in Chihuahua.
“These inspections have significantly impacted the flow of goods and foreign trade operations between Mexico and the United States,” stated ANAM.
In response to these challenges, since April 29th, ANAM has extended operating hours and days at the following points:
San Jerónimo International Crossing: open Monday to Friday from 06:00 to 22:00 and Saturdays from 08:00 to 16:00.
Guadalupe-Tornillo International Crossing: open Monday to Friday from 06:00 to 20:00 and Saturdays from 08:00 to 16:00.
ANAM has urged transporters and those involved in foreign trade to take advantage of the extended hours to properly plan their logistics activities and facilitate the export of goods.
Additionally, efforts are underway to authorize extended hours at other crossings and access ports to further enhance transborder customs operations.
These joint efforts between ANAM and CBP aim to ensure a more efficient and continuous flow of commerce between Mexico and the United States, optimizing customs operations amidst heightened border control in Texas, as outlined by the Agency.
