During the January-March 2024 quarter, the value of foreign sales totaled 4,493.6 million dollars, experiencing an annual increase of 4.1%, said the head of Sedesu, Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero.
Querétaro, Qro. The value of exports could amount to 19,000 million dollars by the end of 2024, if the behavior of the first quarter is maintained, according to forecasts from the Secretariat of Sustainable Development (Sedesu).

This projection represents a growth of approximately 4.3% compared to the 18,216.6 million dollars that exports reached in 2023, based on the records of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

During the January-March 2024 quarter, the value of foreign sales totaled 4,493.6 million dollars, experiencing an annual increase of 4.1%, said the head of Sedesu, Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero.

The variation of the first quarter of the year, he said, shows moderate growth, after presenting more significant changes in previous years.

“From 2021 to 2022 we grew almost 15%, from 2022 to 2023 almost 9 percent. And today we are growing discreetly between the first quarter of 2024, which is the latest official information, we had grown 4.1% compared to the first quarter of 2023 and, if we maintain that growth rate, we could reach the estimate we have, close to 19,000 million dollars of exports,” he said.

Although growth in the first quarter was measured, the state – he stressed – has strengthened its participation in the foreign market.

“In terms of exports, we have seen with pleasure how our exports have risen. A state that exports always means that it is inclined to have a positive trade balance, that is, it exports more than it imports and that encourages the internal market,” he added.

The manufacture of transportation equipment is one of the pillars of exports: in the first quarter of the year it contributed 50.3% of the total value.

“What do we export? The manufacture of transportation equipment is no longer just auto parts, but automotive systems. Automotive systems for braking, driving, headlights, transmission, electronic systems for entertainment and driving of vehicles, among other things, are already being manufactured in our state,” he said.

Next, exports of accessories, electrical appliances and power generation equipment (13.6%), machinery and equipment (10.4%), electronic equipment (7.2%) and the plastic and rubber industry (6.4%) stand out, according to Inegi records.

The United States – he added – remains the main destination for Queretaro exports, representing 82.4% of sales in 2023.

With single-digit participations, Canada follows, receiving 5.1% of exports, as well as the United Kingdom with 1.4% and Brazil with 1 percent.
